Sticky Rice in Echo Park serves as a vibrant culinary gateway to authentic Thai flavors right in the heart of Los Angeles. Specializing in traditional Thai cuisine alongside an expertly curated cocktail bar, this cozy restaurant at 1801 Sunset Blvd invites diners into a warm, intimate setting perfect for everything from casual lunches to lively late-night dinners.
The menu at Sticky Rice offers a delicious journey across Thailand’s rich culinary landscape. Start with the Chicken Satay, featuring four skewers of free-range chicken marinated to perfection in Thai spices, paired beautifully with creamy peanut sauce and tangy pickled cucumber salad. The Fresh Summer Rolls, light and refreshing, come with your choice of shrimp or tofu wrapped in delicate rice paper, providing a vibrant contrast to the rich curries.
Dive into their expertly crafted curries such as the Yellow Curry and the velvety Green Curry Chicken, both brimming with bold, aromatic coconut milk and fresh herbs that lull your palate with subtle sweetness and gentle heat. For those craving grilled specialties, the Crying Tiger—a grilled marinated skirt steak served alongside sticky rice, papaya salad, and jim jeaw dipping sauce—is a true standout. The smoky, tender meat accented by its vibrant accompaniments creates a harmonious explosion of flavors.
Sticky Rice’s noodle selections are equally enticing, featuring classics like Pad Kra Pow (Spicy Basil Stir Fry), packed with fiery, herbal intensity that excites every bite, and the comforting Boat Noodle, which offers a richly savory broth that feels like a warm Thai embrace. The crunchy Fish Sauce Wings add a uniquely tangy umami twist to the familiar chicken wing, perfect for sharing over a round of drinks.
The beverage menu complements the food perfectly, boasting an impressive variety of Thai beers such as the full-bodied Singha, the crisp and smooth Chang, and the lightly malted Leo—each thoughtfully selected to balance and elevate the vibrant flavors on your plate. For craft beer enthusiasts, the Echo Park Pale Ale provides a refreshing local option, and the German Radeberger Pilsner adds another dimension to the drinking experience.
Guests repeatedly praise Sticky Rice for its welcoming, cozy ambiance that feels like a home away from home. As reviewer Wonderland Boudoir shared, “I honestly didn’t even like Thai food before discovering Sticky Rice... Every dish I’ve tried here has been delicious.” Regulars appreciate the reliable, authentic dishes and the friendly staff that consistently make dining here both memorable and comforting. Late-night owls will also love the extended hours, as Jack Hohnen-weber notes, making Sticky Rice an ideal spot to satisfy those evening cravings.
Whether you’re seeking the fiery, herbaceous bite of the Pad Kra Pow, the rich layers of the Khoi Soi, or the refreshing crispness of the papaya salad, Sticky Rice delivers each time with vibrant, nuanced Thai cuisine that is both accessible and deeply satisfying. This is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to immerse themselves in authentic Thai flavors served with genuine hospitality in a relaxed, inviting setting.
I’ve been here countless times over the years and I have yet to have a bad meal. Before discovering Sticky Rice, I honestly didn’t even like Thai food. I had tried so many places (mainly in San Francisco) that just weren’t good. Sticky Rice completely changed my mind. Every dish I’ve tried here has been delicious. The atmosphere is cozy, intimate, and inviting. It’s the kind of spot that’s perfect for a date night because the vibe is so good, but I also love coming with friends who appreciate the setting just as much. The staff deserves special mention too. Everyone has always been kind, attentive, and genuinely helpful. Their hospitality adds to the overall experience. Writing this is making me hungry. I’ll definitely be stopping by again soon.
So yummy it was best food I have had I like it a lot and they are open late which is rlly good for me since I am a late night owl and I stay up later especially when there’s delicious Thai Food from Sticky Rice which is always a huge plus for me when it is late and I am hungry which is not now but could be later.
Delicious Thai food and quick service. Very cute and homey atmosphere, great for lunch/dinner with friends on a weekday or late night on a fri/sat evening. Pad see ew was awesome and so was the sticky rice. Price was reasonable for LA.
Really love this Thai restaurant in LA! ???????? The staff are super lovely and friendly, the Crying Tiger (เสือร้องไห้) is absolutely delicious, the basil pork (กะเพราหมู) is flavorful, and the fried chicken with sweet & spicy sauce is just perfect! Highly recommend — a must-try if you’re in LA!
Got the papaya salad and pad kra pow, both were delicious! The salad was very refreshing and great on a hot day. The pad kra pow was pretty authentic and well-seasoned. Would eat here again!
